DIY: Wall panel

I can’t believe it’s been already 3 full months since I moved to New York, everything’s such a blur. My apartment in Williamsburg is coming together, and one of the things I’ve been meaning to do and finally managed is to paint my kitchen wall. The room barely gets any light, and it really needed something to brighten it up. Taken from this Design*Sponge tutorial, we did a panel section rather than the entire wall to make a dining area. I think it makes a HUGE difference and am happy with it.

Here’s the process:

Step 1: tape off the section you want to paint.

Take a sponge brush, and paint random lines across the panel.

Tape over the lines, making sure they’re airtight and overlap eachother.

Paint a few coats of white over it, making sure it’s opaque.

Dry, remove tape, and you’re set.

As my move date to New York comes closer, I’ve been fighting my hoarding tendencies more and more. I am doing a good job if I say so myself - selling, donating or throwing away bag after bag of things that were hiding in some part of my studio apartment (how all this stuff hid in plain sight is still a mystery).

The hardest thing I’ve parted today is this (Laugh if you like):

Not the D&G boots.

Not the books that could potentially be part of my home library.

Just an old CD walkman.

Why?

This was a Christmas present when I was 11 years old, my very first portable music device. It had headphones with a remote that lit up blue, and I was so excited that I could play my CD on shuffle.
My mom still blames this as my corruption and reason why I’m not a violinist, but for me it was the most valuable thing I owned for a very long time. It went everywhere with me - from Japan to Switzerland, Berlin, England, countless international layovers, and now the States.

It once saved a party because I had all my CD’s with me to go with it.

The autographs (and the message on the back) is a contribution from the Heights, a former band from the UK. I owned an iPod by then, but it broke so I was using this as backup. I lost yet another iPod in 2008, and this served yet again as a back up. Good job SONY, at least back in the late 90s.

I got a new iPod touch, forgot all about this poor little player, and left the batteries in it. Needless to say now it’s completely useless thanks to the exploded old batteries.

The last music it ever played was Placebo’s Sleeping With Ghosts album.

So thank you, little music player that accompanied my childhood. I’ll think of you from time-to-time as I listen to nostalgic music on Spotify.
